Hurricanes AAU tryouts Fall 2019
FAQs ABOUT HIGH HOOPS HURRICANES AAU
Who can participate?
High Hoops AAU is open to boys and girls in Grades 3-12, from any town.
When are the tryouts?
The tryout schedule is listed in the poster above. There is no fee to try out, but all players must first be registered (click on appropriate link at the bottom of this page) before attending a tryout. Please be at your tryout 10 minutes early in order to check in and be ready to start on time.
Should my child attend the tryouts at both locations?
If you are interested in having your child play for a team based in Uxbridge/Douglas, they should attend the tryout at that location. If you are interested in having your child play for a team based in Hopkinton, they should attend a tryout there. If you are open to playing for either location, they can attend both tryouts.
My child has a conflict (or injury) and can’t participate in the scheduled tryout. Is there anything we can do?
Yes, email us at info@HighHoopsBasketball.com. We can try to organize a group or individual makeup tryout.
When does the season start and end? How many practices and tournaments are there?
Practices begin the week of Sept. 9. There are two 90-minute practices per week most weeks. Some weeks there might be only one practice. All teams participate in weekend AAU tournaments, starting in late September or early October and ending in late October or early November. Uxbridge-based teams will play in five tournaments. Hopkinton-based teams will play in four or five tournaments, except for the Hopkinton Grade 3 boys team, which will have one practice per week (occasionally two) and play in one weekend tournament.
Where are the team practices?
Uxbridge teams will practice in Uxbridge or Douglas. Hopkinton teams will practice in Hopkinton.
Where are the tournaments?
The tournament schedule will not be finalized until early September, but we attempt to find tournaments reasonably close by in order to minimize the amount of driving everyone must do. Based on past history, most tournaments will be about a 30-minute drive from where your team practices, but it depends on schedule and availability and other factors — such as trying to ensure we have competitive games.
When do we get the game schedule for the tournaments?
Most tournaments send out the schedule 2-3 days prior, so there is not much advance notice. Typically, teams are guaranteed three games — usually two games on Saturday (could be anytime, but generally within a 4-hour time span) and one on Sunday morning, then a possible playoff game or two Sunday afternoon. Some tournaments do not have playoffs, so the schedule could be different.
How much does it cost?
It costs nothing to register for tryouts. If your child is selected for a team, the fee is $495. For new players — or returning players who need a new uniform — the uniform package is an additional $75. It includes a jersey, shorts and T-shirt. For the Hopkinton Grade 3 boys team the fee is $295 plus uniform.
Is the entire amount due at once?
When your child is extended an offer to join a team, we require at minimum a nonrefundable $295 down payment to hold their spot. The balance is due prior to your child’s first tournament (late September or early October).
Who will coach my child’s team?
Coaches will be assigned after the teams have been finalized. We have coaches with decades of experience and proven success coaching basketball at the youth and high school level, and sometimes we will use a parent coach if that person has the requisite experience and ability.
What is the level of commitment expected of players?
While it’s obviously preferable that players attend as many practices and games as possible, we understand that everyone has other commitments, including other sports. We ask that you inform us of potential conflicts before the season so we can plan accordingly.
